Overview

Precise localization on the basis of natural landmarks

The NAV-LOC’s defining feature is its ability to localize on the basis of natural surrounding contours. This is made possible by a 2D LiDAR sensor which supplies precise scan data. This data is then processed in the special SIM2000ST Sensor Integration Machine using a SICK algorithm. As the data is processed, the SICK algorithm continually compares the distances retrieved from the current scan data with the reference map and is therefore able to provide the current position and angle of orientation of the vehicle without any additional reflectors. NAV310 is the first 2D LiDAR sensor from SICK which can be used for this contour localization when combined with SIM2000ST. In the near future, additional 2D LiDAR sensors will be able to be connected to the NAV-LOC.
