How the outdoorScan3 handles rain

Even in heavy rain, the safety laser scanner works reliably. But what exactly does “heavy rain” really mean? How does it feel? What is the difference between moderate and very heavy rain? And how does the sensor respond in each case? You can find the answers in this video!

A SICK expert explains how the outdoorScan3 safety laser scanner operates during moderate rain (<10 mm/h)

Scenario 1: Moderate rain

Typical for a rainy day in Central Europe. The outdoorScan3 functions reliably.

A SICK expert explains how the outdoorScan3 safety laser scanner operates during heavy rain (10-30 mm/h)

Scenario 2: Heavy rain

This type of rain occurs in mountainous regions or during thunderstorms. The outdoorScan3 can also operate under these conditions with suitable weather protection. Occasionally, the safety laser scanner will interpret the rain as an object and switch off safely.

A SICK expert explains how the outdoorScan3 safety laser scanner operates during very heavy rain (> 30 mm/h)

Scenario 3: Very heavy rain

A type of downpour that usually only lasts for a few minutes. The outdoorScan3 then automatically switches to a safe OFF state. As soon as the rain stops, it resumes its normal operation.
