Safe Motion Control: Safe processes without interruptions

The innovative Safe Motion Control concept allows you to monitor the movement of a machine at any time. What's more, all the signals from the safety sensors and actuators can be combined. This generates information that indicates whether a machine operator is actually in danger when he or she enters or creates an interruption in a hazardous area. If there is no existing risk, it is even possible to access the machine during ongoing processes. In this case, the process is uninterrupted. This minimizes downtimes and faulty switching, as well as shortening cycle times. This in turn boosts the efficiency and availability of the machines and plants.

    Safe stop 1 (SS1)

    • Controlled shutdown maintaining the power supply to the drive elements
    • The ramp is monitored
    • After shutting down or below a speed limit: Activation of the safe torque off (STO) function

    Safe Stop 2 (SS2)

    • Controlled shutdown maintaining the power supply to the drive elements
    • The ramp is monitored
    • After shutting down: Safe monitoring of the drive shaft position in a defined range

    Safe operating stop (SOS)

    • After shutting down: Safe monitoring of the drive shaft position in a defined range

     

    Safe brake control (SBC)

    • The safe brake control (SBC) function provides safe output signals for controlling external brakes

    Safely limited speed (SLS)

    • When permission has been given, a safe, reduced speed is monitored in the special mode
    • If the speed is exceeded then one of the safe stop functions is triggered

    Safe direction (SDI)

    • In addition to safe movement, there is also monitoring of safe direction of rotation (right/left)
    • In the event of movement in an unapproved direction of rotation, a safe stop function is triggered

 

The ideal solution for automated guided vehicle systems where people might be present in the hazardous area. Encoders are centrally connected to the safety controller and thus enable speed and brake ramp monitoring.

This monitoring optimizes the safety laser scanner's protective fields, which creates more effective use of the available space.

Safe Motion Control allows intervention once it has detected a machine's downtime status. Components and tools can then be quickly replaced in machines secured by a door, cover, or similar safety device. The speed monitor ensures safer and more efficient operation in maintenance mode.
