Out and about with SICK: Four thematic routes at the SPS 2019

Nov 27, 2019

SICK supplies a wide range of solutions for logistics, process and factory automation along the value-adding chain. On behalf of the many other industries and complete solutions, SICK has selected four central themes for its booth at the international trade fair Smart Production Solutions (SPS). To obtain a good overview of the available technologies, visitors can choose between four thematic routes: Industry 4.0, Mobile Applications, Safety, and Robotics. Every route has been assigned a color to guide the inquisitive guest on their trip to the highlight exhibits of the central themes.

Visitors can explore the SICK booth across 4 topic routes: Industry 4.0, Mobile Applications, Safety or Robotics

Visitors following the thematic routes learn in an interactive way how easy it is to implement Industry 4.0 principles today. The visitors’ interests on the thematic routes can be researched directly in SICK’s Installed Base Manager app and explored on location by smartphone or tablet. A digital twin of the entire trade fair booth will be created via the app. Data will be available there for each exhibit, which visitors can view according to their needs and interests.

For example the blue thematic route – a short stroll through Industry 4.0

Following the blue thematic route takes you on a journey into the world of Industry 4.0. SICK has been following this path to Industry 4.0 applications for many years now and describes it, quite rightly, as a mutual journey with its customers. 4.0 NOW solutions cannot simply be implemented at the snap of a finger. The approaches are both individual and varied, just like every customer. So we pick up every customer from exactly where they’re currently at.

An important prerequisite for making the huge theme of “Industry 4.0-NOW” accessible is precisely this easy access to each visitor’s areas of interest. Overall, there is a choice between ten exhibits along the blue thematic route, which represent and exemplify the different phases and access points to Industry 4.0 applications.

Sensors and software unite

Besides software applications based on deep learning algorithms and the customization of these, visitors will find the first ultrawide band-based localization technology from SICK. This is a key technology in achieving the type of networked production and logistics needed for Industry 4.0. Localization data provides companies with a high level of transparency and understanding of all production-related assets, load carriers and loading equipment.

Another highlight along the thematic route is the W16 and W26 photoelectric sensor product families with BluePilot. Thanks to the innovative LED display, BluePilot allows the sensors and reflectors as well as senders and receivers in these product lines to be aligned within seconds. In the case of the photoelectric proximity sensors, a push-and-turn mechanism enables the sensor to be adjusted quickly and precisely, thereby eliminating the customary time-consuming fine adjustment using rotary controls.

BluePilot also reports any change in detection quality, e.g., due to contamination or vibrations, which ensures faults are detected in a timely manner, long before a production downtime occurs. Visitors can also experience all of these in an interactive manner at the exhibits.
