Web width and edge guiding in the tire industry

In tire manufacturing, the MLG-2 WebChecker automation light grid allows high-precision width measurement and edge guiding of up to five parallel running rubber webs. Depending on the tire, different width rubber strips are applied on the tire unwinding unit. The MLG-2 WebChecker checks whether the correct number of the various strips have been used at the prescribed position after the extruder. If a strip is missing or is too wide, the machine is stopped. If the strips are in the wrong position, this is corrected. Material defects and their position are also reliably detected and changeover times reduced to a minimum since no mechanical realignment is required.
