Array sensors

Array sensors operate on the proximity scanning principle. They detect even the smallest edges based on differences in grayscale values within the field-of-view. Positioning of, for example, a paper web based on the web edge or a contrast line is only one of many possible applications. Widths, diameters, and gaps can also be detected. In reflector mode, the array sensors can even detect transparent materials.

Automation light grids

Two-dimensional inspection or counting tasks are important in automation. SICK’s automation light grids can be used in a number of these solutions, such as detecting and counting irregularly shaped objects, people and vehicles, and checking for presence and pallet overhang detection. The tasks are so versatile that one light grid cannot fulfill the requirements of every application. Light grids from SICK offer multiple ranges, heights, sizes, orientations, and resolutions which simplify integration through high flexibility and performance.

SICK’s capacitive and magnetic proximity sensors offer a long service life, extreme ruggedness and the utmost precision. SICK intelligently and reliably solves industry-specific and individual automation tasks.

Color sensors

Color sensors detect object colors. To do so, the sensors emit light throughout the entire visible range onto the objects to be inspected, calculate the color proportions from the reflected light and compare these with previously taught reference color values.

Condition Monitoring sensors

The Condition Monitoring sensors from SICK allow intelligent condition-based monitoring. They determine relevant physical parameters for mission-critical processes and applications. The sensor data provide the foundation for analyses that make condition-dependent maintenance possible. Besides reducing unplanned downtimes, they can thereby also increase the service life of components and reduce costs.

Contrast sensors

Contrast sensors are primarily used in packaging/printing machines for the detection of printed or control marks. SICK's line of KT contrast sensors detects even the smallest contrasts at the highest speeds, such as print marks on foils or packaging. They detect minute grayscale variations between the mark and the background on matte, shiny or transparent surfaces. A variety of device types with different contrast resolution methods and teach-in versions are available to meet wide-ranging requirements.

Glare sensors

The Glare sensor detects and distinguishes glare on even surfaces. It also provides maximum reliability and saves costs. Previously, gloss on object surfaces was a disruptive factor that regularly had engineers breaking into a sweat.

Now, gloss properties are a distinguishing criterion for process control – regardless of color, transparency or pattern. And it will be engineers’ eyes that shine, not their brows. Equipped with intelligent Delta-S-Technology, Glare is a further milestone in customer-oriented sensor development. Once again, SICK is confirming its leading position in opto-electronic sensors for the detection of a range of objects.

Image-based code readers

Image-based code readers combine performance and flexibility. In demanding applications, they read a variety of code types such as 1D or 2D codes, DPM codes and miniature codes. The cameras also identify colored and damaged codes, regardless of the marking method and surface. This ensures very good read rates, even at high speeds and with changing rotational positions of the codes.

Inductive proximity sensors

Millions of inductive proximity sensors are currently in use in virtually all industries. They detect metal objects without contact, and are characterized by a long service life and extreme ruggedness. With the latest ASIC technology, SICK's sensors offer the ultimate in precision and reliability. Luminescence sensors

Luminescence sensors detect visible and non-visible marks that illuminate when using ultraviolet (UV) light. Fluorescent material and marks are reliably detected independently of their pattern, colors or surface conditions on any material. Luminescence sensors emit UV light with a wave length of approximately 375 nm. Fluorescent substances convert the UV light into long-wave visible light, which is then received and evaluated by the luminescence sensor.

This extensive range of photoelectric sensors is used in many automation applications around the world.

Radar sensors

What are the advantages of radar over other types of sensor technology? In short, it comes down to the ruggedness: Radar sensors reliably detect any object within their range, no matter how harsh the environment and are able to analyse or give out the speed of the object. For this reason, radar sensors within the SICK portfolio can primarily be found in ports and at industrial mining sites, where they help prevent collisions by reliably detecting objects even in adverse weather conditions or despite significant pollution. They are used to prevent collisions and measure distances in large and mobile systems such as gantry cranes and ship-to-shore cranes in ports and booms of open pit excavators and dump trucks in the mining industry.

RFID

RFID technology makes reliable, radio-based identification possible without visual contact. Even under harsh ambient conditions, dozens of transponders can be read and written simultaneously with UHF devices from up to 10 m away.
