Automated Storage and Retrieval - Positioning

The older laser distance sensors used on many Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems had a mean time to failure of 25000 or 50000 hrs (3yrs / 6yrs).  How old are the lasers on your systems and where are they in their product life cycle?  Rather than wait for downtime or replace like for like, why not consider the SICK upgrade path to the DL100 Pro.

Benefits

  • Lower TCO. DL100 Pro Mean-Time-to-Failure = 100Khrs (11.7 years)
  • State of the Art technology early in its Product life cycle
  • Superior positioning.  Higher repeatability / accuracy than previous devices
  • Easier exchange when device reaches end of service life (no tools needed)

Upgrade of old SICK devices

If your Automated Storage and Retrieval System is fitted with older SICK distance sensors e.g. DME3000 (obsolete) or DME4000/DME5000, the SICK upgrade kit can make migration to the DL100 Pro very easy.
  • Makes mechanical fixings and electrical connections interchangeable.
  • SSI variants = no PLC intervention needed
  • RS422 / Profibus require some change of commands / integration of new GSD respectively

Upgrade of other distance sensors

If you have other distance sensors on site please contact us to discuss migration options.

Fine Rack Positioning

To ensure precise putaways and picks, it is necessary to compensate for any mechanical discrepancies in the shelving unit that may have been caused, for example, by the loading situation or thermal influences. Following absolute positioning of the driving and lifting unit, an InspectorP Rack Fine Positioning 2D vision sensor allows precise fine positioning in front of the storage bay even in double deep applications for pallets.

Empty Bay Detection

Using the TiM LiDAR scanner from SICK

The TiM can be used indoor or outdoor to detect storage space before goods are placed on a shelf.  This solution is 'Plug and Play' for 2D detection on manned or autonomous vehicles, so no programming skills are needed making it fast and easy to install.

  • Configurable to create alert/alarm zones – Digital I/O to simplify the communication
  • Based on compact and high performance distance measurement
  • High accuracy, robustness and reliability using LiDAR technology -> making sure complete bay is viewed using the detection plane rather than single point. Collisions are avoided, reducing down time and possible damage
  • Multiple setups available giving instant switching to different bay sizes and configurations -> saving time on change over and load transport and placement
