Virtual Classroom: Online Functional Safety Training and SISTEMA

This course is a practical online introduction to Machine Functional Safety and the SISTEMA software, run over six short sessions. During the course you will learn the importance and application of BS EN ISO 13849-1, and how to put it into practice using SISTEMA software assistant. 

Who should attend?

Engineers, Machine Builders, End Users upgrading a plant or Trainees/Apprentices.

What are the learning outcomes?

By the end of the training you should be able to:
  • Understand the basic requirements of the functional safety standards 
  • Understand hazard identification and mitigation techniques
  • Understand BS EN ISO 13849-1 and how to apply it practically when designing or upgrading machines
  • Communicate the essential elements of functional safety to colleagues 
  • Determine the required Performance Level (PL) with risk graph and matrix methodologies
  • Understand how to verify and validate safety functions
  • Understand the operation and function of the IFA Sistema Software
  • Practical approach to designing a solution based on a configurable safety controller.

Is this a certified course?

This course does not lead to a formal qualification. However, you will benefit from structured learning and practical knowledge transfer. On completion it will allow you to make a valuable contribution to operational safety in your company. If you would prefer a certified course we also offer the CFSAT & CFSAE.

How is the course structured?

The course is broken down into six sessions run over five or six weeks: delivered by experts with extensive technical know-how and years of practical experience. You will be sent a link to join the training and download the training materials before each session.  There will also be plenty of time for questions and interaction with the trainers on the day.

  • Extracurricular: Risk assessment on a machine of  your choice or on a virtual machine
Session 3: Functional Safety (The simplified method)
  • Review of last week and extracurricular answers
  • Introduction to BS EN ISO 13849-1
  • The simplified method
  • Extracurricular: Apply the simplified method to an example safety function
 

Session 4: Functional Safety (The detailed method)

  • Review of last week and extracurricular answers
  • The detailed method
  • Introduction to Cook Books and the IFA report
  • Working backwards from a circuit
  • Extracurricular: Backwards engineer circuits and create safety related block diagrams
Session 5: SISTEMA
  • Review of last week and extracurricular answers
  • Introduction
  • Walkthrough's (we recommended that attendees have access to 2 screens for this part of the course)
  • Extracurricular: Create a SISTEMA file for a machine
