SICK Solution Hackathon 2023: endless skills, endless ideas, endless solutions

Nov 6, 2023

107 young tech talents, 23 teams, 48 hours, and countless cups of coffee: SICK Solution Hackathon 2023 brought together the inventive spirit of students and start-ups from all over the world with leading software and technology. In the process, creative IoT solutions that can make our lives easier, more sustainable, or more mobile were created in a very short time. All was supported by ten established industry partners: ABB, Bosch, Bosch Rexroth, Continum, Ericsson, NTT Data, Robominds, Safelog, Userlike, and Xitaso.

The two winning teams “EOS” and “Mind Hackers” not only worked on solutions for automated parking, charging, and booking of charging stations for AGVs and cars but also addressed the question: "how can Generative AI contribute to making the world a healthier place?"

Smart contracting between cars and parking areas

Team EOS presented a solution for the automated rental of electric chargers and parking spaces that makes better use of existing charging infrastructure. Their app solution aims to simplify and automate the parking, charging and booking of car charging stations for end users as well as transport systems in intralogistics.

Improve your shot into the basket: GenAI sports movement analyzer

How can artificial intelligence help make the world a more sporty and healthier place? This was the question posed by the winning team "Mind Hackers" and they developed a camera-based AI-supported sensor solution that analyzes shots in basketball and directly shows the player how to improve technique and posture. An application that not only enables better performance in professional sports, but also supports recreational athletes.

Students and young professionals from all over the world

Technology enthusiasts and software-savvy students and professionals worldwide submitted their applications, and 107 developers received their ticket to this special event. The participants were able to access industrial software and hardware from SICK and renowned industrial partners to realize their digital solution in one of five industrial task fields: mobile applications and robotics ("Make it Move"), simplification and automation of everyday tasks ("Make it Easy"), data visualization ("Make it Visible"), solutions for greater sustainability and resource savings ("Make it Green"), and safety applications for humans and machines ("Make it Safe").
