Data sovereignty and data security in the context of Industry 4.0

Within the scope of Industry 4.0, the data created and then potentially processed by sensors will have an economic value and must be protected against unauthorized access. There must also be rules in place in case a company uses third-party data or a third-party cloud to store its own data. Such a set of rules is fundamental for the security of data exchange. This is why SICK has become actively involved as one of the founding members of the Industrial Data Space e.V. One of the most important tasks performed by the association is ensuring secure data exchange between certified participants.

Within the practical context of Industry 4.0, only companies certified by Industrial Data Space will be able to exchange data. Uniform and transparent ownership and usage conditions as well as efficient, hierarchical safety precautions create the foundation for data-based services and digital sovereignty.
