Mobile handheld scanners

Rugged, reliable and suitable for many applications

The mobile handheld scanners from SICK offer quick and flexible data acquisition without time-consuming reading or manual registration. With mobile handheld scanners acting as a stand-alone solution or integrated into sophisticated auto-ID solutions, scanning takes just a matter of seconds and reading errors are virtually ruled out. Not only does this take a load off of employees, but it also accelerates processes and eliminates sources of errors.

Advantages

The benefits of mobile handheld scanners

Mobile handheld scanners use linear imagers for 1D barcode reading and image-based imagers for 2D code reading. Application-oriented illumination, which can be direct or diffuse indirect, is crucial for fast, error-free reading processes. This is the only way to ensure optimum contrast differentiation. The diffuse, indirect illumination achieves very good read results, especially for DPM codes on very shiny or irregular surfaces. Depending on the application, light standard devices through to extremely rugged industrial devices are used.

Benefits of 1D scanners:

- Suitable for standard to extremely wide 1D barcodes (including PDF417) with very good cost/benefit ratio

- Stable read quality even with changing ambient light

- Long service life thanks to highly integrated electronics design and few components

Benefits of 2D scanners:

- Flexible reading of various 1D and 2D code types including DPM and miniature codes

- Code detection regardless of the rotational position (360° reading)

- Reliable reading performance, even of foil-protected codes and reflective surfaces

- Reliable identification of severely damaged or incomplete codes with corrective image processing and decoding algorithms

SICK mobile handheld scanners – a good way to make your connection

Thanks to integrated USB and RS-232 interfaces, mobile handheld scanners from SICK can be used easily and universally. Cable-bound device variants offer up to 5 m range of movement and are connected to the system so they cannot get lost. More freedom of movement with up to 100 m is enabled by the cable-free device variants, which can also be coupled directly with WPAN-capable host devices. Using modular connection technology, the mobile handheld scanners from SICK can be integrated into numerous fieldbus technologies such as PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET IO/RT, Ethernet TCP/IP, EtherCAT® or SICK AppSpace topology.
Thanks to plug and play connectivity with a USB interface on the data terminal of the manned forklift truck, the scanner connected to the vehicle so it cannot get lost and is at the same time mobile.
The simple PROFINET integration allows mobile handheld scanners to be used with the Connection Device Fieldbus fieldbus module as a back-up unit in complex track and trace systems.
Connectivity with common cloud-based interfaces is made possible with SICK AppSpace and Sensor Integration Machine modules.

At home in industrial environments thanks to extremely rugged and sturdy design

The industrial variants of the mobile handheld scanners from SICK impress with their rugged design. Even multiple falls onto concrete from heights of up to 3 m do not impair the function. Dust and dirt in warehouses or rain and snow in outdoor areas at temperature between –30 °C and +55 °C cannot harm them.
Protected from external influences The industrial mobile handheld scanners are dust-proof, splash-proof and waterproof in accordance with IP65, partially even IP67 and IP68.
Nearly indestructible They withstand falls onto concrete from up to 3 m or up to 7,000 rollovers from 1 m drop height.
For either in- or outdoors The industrial mobile handheld scanners are resistant to extreme heat, cold, and humidity.

Perfect identification? More than a vision. Whether laser, camera or RFID: Each identification technology has its advantages – and sometimes it takes more than just one of them. In order to find an optimal solution for the respective application, we compare the different technologies and provide a practical identification explorer to help you make a decision.
Increase in system reliability Especially with stationary system solutions, mobile handheld scanners offer many advantages, such as a back-up solution if stationary scanners fail or codes are not correctly identified. Objects can be ejected in these cases and read with a mobile handheld scanner.
The future has a home: 4Dpro SICK is combining a wide range of identification and machine vision solutions under the umbrella of the 4Dpro. The connection technology, user interface and accessory concept of the solutions are uniform. This also means that all sensors, including accessories, are compatible with each other. This reduces the number of components required and offers precisely the flexibility needed for efficient automation – with minimal integration work and lower storage costs.
