Overview
The Hermes Standard, listed under IPC-HERMES-9852, is a modern machine-to-machine communication protocol customized for printed circuit board assembly lines. On the road to creating Industry 4.0 factories, the Hermes protocol is an elementary component which the previous SMEMA standard interface was not able to implement. Continuous use of the Hermes Standard enables greater automation of line controllers as well as consistent traceability of printed circuit boards. With Hermes SMEMA Connect, SICK is offering a scalable solution for retrofitting machines with SMEMA interface so that they can operate together with machines with Hermes interfaces in printed circuit board assembly lines.
