The Traffic Controller TIC uses laser measurement data to build a 3D model of the vehicle in question, which is then used to determine the vehicle class. The sensors are mounted either above the road on a portal or to the side on a gallows or pole depending on how many lanes need to be monitored. No components need to be built into the road surface and no road blocks are required as part of the installation process, which means that there shouldn't be any traffic disruptions.
