Battery management system

Aside from the actual battery cells, the battery management system (BMS) is the most important component of a battery module or pack.

The BMS detects and, if necessary, regulates the charge level of individual cells or modules. It also records specific operating data.

Other systems, such as those used to cool the battery pack, are often dependent on or controlled by the BMS.

When used in cars, the BMS serves as an interface to the power electronics of hybrid and electric vehicles.
