CAN

The CAN (Controller Area Network) is an asynchronous serial bus system. It connects multiple equal-priority devices, such as sensors and actuators, to one another. Data is transmitted arbitrarily with the aid of an identifier. Because of its excellent interference immunity, real-time capability, and low cost, CAN has become the standard in many safety-related areas, e.g., in automotive and automation engineering. CAN is based on layer 2 of the OSI model.
