Inspection of the railway tracks
Operating entities of rail networks have to carry out periodic inspections as part of the maintenance of their systems to ensure operational safety and traffic performance. Maintenance work includes inspection of the rails, railroad ties, the ballast bed and the mounting systems. Several high-end Ruler or Ranger type cameras are mounted on an inspection vehicle for this purpose. These deliver precise cross-section profiles from which the complete geometry of the upper structure is calculated. The up to 30,000 profiles per second allow for high speeds during inspection. This is the only way to maintain scheduled rail traffic at full operating speed while also keeping maintenance costs low. The Ruler3000 streaming camera is pre-calibrated and delivers 3D coordinates. With the Ranger streaming camera, the working distance and field of view can be adjusted flexibly.
