The hygienic demands of food legislation put pressure on the meat-processing industry to make special efforts during the construction and operation of their machines and plants.

Temperature, humidity and stipulated plant cleaning cycles with caustic solutions can drastically affect machine technology, particularly the electronics. Solutions from SICK have decades of proven performance and reliability under the harshest of conditions. Solutions include inductive sensors, photoelectric sensors and hand-held scanners.

Wrappers apply protective film around packaged containers of product. SICK offers a wide range of solutions for wrapper machines. Photoelectric sensors detect the position of containers before they enter a wrapper. On shrink wrappers, sensors confirm the container is in the correct position, determine that the correct number of containers are available for the bundle and perform other quality assurance procedures. Retro-reflective and diffuse photoelectric sensors determine pallet presence, height, and wrap presence or completion on stretchwrappers. After the products are wrapped, sensors may be used for edge detection for pallet overhang.
