RFI641 – the new UHF RFID system for logistics automation Waldkirch, November 2007 – At the SPS/IPC/DRIVES trade fair in Nuremberg, SICK will be presenting a powerful UHF-based RFID system for automating logistics. Up to four antennae can be connected to the RFI641 Radio Frequency Interrogator. As a result of its long range of up to 6 m and its rapid data transfer, reading locations can be set up either alongside the material flow, in a gate structure above the conveyor system, or directly in a reading gate. A number of passive transponders can be read simultaneously thanks to the multi-ident and anti-collision features. Whereby all data carriers that comply with the EPCglobal and ISO 18000-6 standards are reliably identified. In data transfer terms, the RFI641 is specified for the UHF bandwidths approved in Europe as well as those in the USA (862-865 MHz and 902-928 MHz).
Whether in production plants, on stationary conveyor systems, or in picking areas and distribution centres – the RFI641 is the ideal system solution for detecting transponder-labelled objects in goods flows. The reader and the antennae offer rapid, easy and space-saving installation. Configuration is carried out via a web browser. Application-specific software can be integrated in the reader. In addition to the four antennae connections, the RFI641 has programmable digital inputs, e.g. for a triggering photoelectric switch. On the output side, the reading device offers one Ethernet and one RS-232 data interface, via which the RFID system can be connected to a PLC or higher-ranking SCM or ERP system. Data filtering and individual definition of the data output format can be implemented in the RFI641 for the communication process. The digital switching outputs permit direct process control by the RFID system, e.g. activation of signalling equipment or points in the material flow.
Modular and with a secured future
As a result of its modular concept, the RFI641 offers flexible and economical use. Antennae, connection cable, Ethernet and RS-232 date cables, as well as transponders can be specifically selected according to the application involved. Firmware updates are also possible, making the system adaptable to future developments and thus ensuring a high level of long-term investment protection.
