Waldkirch, April 2008 – The LD MRS laser scanner is a powerful sensor that can reliably detect its surroundings even in poor weather conditions.

The LD MRS is the automation version of the LUX laser scanner, developed by Ibeo for the automotive sector. The system simultaneously scans and measures four parallel layers – important, for example, to compensate for the rocking motion of a vehicle or to detect slopes. In addition, the LD MRS detects up to three successive reflections per measurement and per layer – at a range of up to 200 m. This allows the early detection of obstacles and path markings so that they can be taken into account in the vehicle control system. The LD MRS is also characterised by its ruggedness in all weather conditions: it operates reliably in all weather and light conditions, i.e. in snow, rain, dust or in the dark.

As a result of its excellent outdoor capability, the LD MRS is particularly suitable for use at ports, for security purposes and for commercial vehicles (e.g. cleaning vehicles and agricultural machines). The LD MRS thus supplements SICK’s already well-known and proven family of outdoor products.

Serial production of the LD MRS will commence during the fourth quarter of 2008.
