Photoelectric safety switches: evaluation without detours
Waldkirch, November 2007 – The new L2000 and L4000 single-beam photoelectric safety switches from SICK offer Category 2 or 4 safety according to EN 61496, and direct connection to safe controllers – and thus evaluation without detours. Applications involving safety-oriented monitoring of smaller machines and plant, e.g. in packaging technology or handling and warehousing systems, can be efficiently implemented with these sensor systems.

Differing designs, housing materials and ranges, as well as an enclosure rating of IP 67 and sub-zero operating capability open up numerous areas of use for the two series, and ensure modern machine integration in every respect.

L4000 + sens:Control: simple and reliable in the top safety category

With the new L41 series, the L4000 family of sensors now has a testable photoelectric switch in either an M18 or M30 cylindrical housing and with ranges of up to 60 m. What is really new, however, is that the devices now no longer require a separate evaluation unit, but can be connected directly to safety controllers – for example to the Flexi Classic safe compact controller and the safety controllers of the UE4400 product family. Cyclical testing of the L41 is integrated in these SICK systems as standard. The advantage: the sensor signals are now directly available for a variety of control-related logics and functions, e.g. AND/OR, Muting or Bypass. The particular user profits doubly: by saving space in the control cabinet and through greater flexibility for safe automation.

L2000 family of sensors now in yellow housings

In addition to the cylindrical L21 with a range of up to 60 m, the new L2000 series offers two versions in cubic housings and with a new yellow design: the L27 and L28. Evaluation without detours here, too: in combination with suitable safety modules such as the Flexi Classic or safety controllers of the UE4400 family, all L2000 sensors can be used in applications up to Safety Category 2.
