Class at the checkout: presentation scans with the IT4600r Waldkirch, November 2007 – Whether as a fixed presentation scanner or a hand-held scanner, the IT4600r is suitable for frequent and rapid routine scanning processes, such as those commonly found at checkout terminals in supermarkets, among other places. This is due to many of the device’s features, including the possibility of omnidirectional reading, the large depth of field, the improved reading performance and the high movement tolerance. The IT4600r is also characterised by its high availability: it has no moving parts that could be subject to friction – but does have a 5-year guarantee.
The IT4600r with its impact-proof plastic housing is one of the most robust devices on the market. In reading terms, the hand-held scanner is ideally equipped for the detection of the usual 1D, stacked and 2D codes. Its imager reading module not only detects the codes reliably, but also in any orientation. Then there is its large depth of field – users do not need long to find the right reading distance, and rapidly obtain a reading result. The device is also, however, particularly suitable for operation as a fixed presentation scanner in checkout operation. Whereby additional LEDs in the imager module ensure optimum illumination of the reading field. A special operating mode for rapid scanning guarantees even better reading performance, giving the IT4600r a horizontal movement tolerance that allows the code to pass the device at speeds of up to 0.5 m/s.
