Standard technology on larger machines and plants is controlled by programmable logic controllers (PLCs). For the integration of sensors/actuators, bus systems are utilized. Sensors/actuators are connected to decentralised peripheral units and information is transmitted to the central controller via the fieldbus system. This allows the flexible and easily adaptable construction of automation plants, with expanded diagnosis all the way to the connected devices.
These advantages of standard fieldbus systems can now also be exploited with safe fieldbus systems. Familiar fieldbus techniques and processes are expanded with safety-oriented transfer processes so that existing know-how can be applied when handling fieldbuses. Existing plants can be expanded with the safety-relevant components.
For this purpose, with the network solutions of the UE1000 family, SICK meets the safety technology requirements for PROFIsafe, AS-Interface Safety at Work and DeviceNet Safety™. They allow flexible connection of safe sensors for solving your safety applications. With optimised interfaces to opto-electronic safety equipment, the expanded functions of the connected sensors are available within the bus system.
