With its IDM series, SICK is presenting two new hand-held bar code scanners in user-friendly designs. While the IDM120 has been designed for contact and close-range detection, the IDM140 is suitable for longer reading distances of up to 350 mm. Both bar code readers offer simple param-eterisation for their particular application – either via configuration codes or us-ing software.

The IDM120 offers a scanning rate of 200 scans per second. Various code sizes and code qualities are reliably detected, considerably reducing the manual effort required for typing numbers in, e.g. at a shop counter or an office workplace. Thanks to its trig-ger buttons on both sides, the IDM120 is equally suitable for left- and right-handers.
The IDM140 hand-held scanner also offers low aiming effort and high target reliability. This has been made possible by the device’s linear imaging image-capture module that generates a bright and clearly detectable scanning line on the bar code. The IDM140 has a large depth-of-focus range and can be used for reading distances of up to 350 mm. Rugged and user-friendly design, simple alignment, and rapid read feedback – achieved through a high-speed scanning rate of 500 scans/second – ensure flexible and speedy work with the IDM140. With PS/2, USB and RS-232, a variety of interfaces common in office automation, production or storage and logistics are available, de-pending on the area of use.
