OD Value is the appropriate brand name for the new series of displacement sensors from SICK. With four different measurement ranges of from 26…34 mm to 60…180 mm and resolutions between 2 µm and 30 µm, the OD Value is suitable for numerous tasks. Thanks to CMOS technology, the devices are capable of precisely measuring the position of light, dark and highly reflective objects. The extremely accurate distance sensors offer a high level of dependability, simplest operation and interface flexibility at an interesting price.

The displacement sensors of the OD series from SICK meet maximum accuracy and speed demands when measuring objects in the µ-range. They are used, among other areas, in the electronics, automotive and packaging industries, as well as in robotics. They monitor the presence and position of objects; measure profiles, diameters and thicknesses; detect the slightest unevenness and the smallest of deviations or indentations; and take on other quality inspection functions where µ-accurate detection capability matters, e.g. for inline quality inspection, process regulation or product classification.
Signal output as desired
Four different interfaces are available for integrating OD Value distance sensors, which require no supplementary evaluation unit. In addition to the RS-422 variant with a switching output, there is a pure switching variant with two switching outputs, as well as variants with an analogue current or voltage output (4 - 20 mA or 0 - 10 V) and two switching outputs. The series therefore offers maximum flexibility regarding integration in an automation system.
Simply better quality
Despite all its precision and flexibility, the devices of the OD Value series are particularly easy to operate. The sensors are taught an object’s pattern, for example, via teach-in. A press of a button is all that’s required and measurement can begin – with a measurement frequency of up to 2 kHz if necessary. Its enclosure rating of IP67 allows the OD Value to master harsh operating conditions. This feature also opens up interesting areas of use in the packaging, paper and timber industries, in addition to its classic applications in the automotive and electronics industries, and robotics.
