Waldkirch, November 2008
SICK has supplemented its series of compact contrast scanners with a device version with a white light LED – the KT3M. The sensor’s highlights are its high switching frequencies of up to 10 kHz, the most space-efficient housing on the market, static teach-in, and automatic self-learning for switching point and dazzle adaptation. Even small print and cutting marks (e.g. OMR marks) on the target object, e.g. a bag, tube or piece of printing, can be reliably detected because the white light transmitter of the KT3M generates a very fine consolidated light spot.

The white light LED in combination with various performance features makes the KT3M a unique sensor for a variety of tasks, e.g. in the packaging industry, for document handling or in printing machines. The compact housing is ideally suited to the often space-critical mounting conditions in machines. Switching frequencies of up to 10 kHz and a response time of just 50 µs – both twice as quick as in other contrast mark readers on the market – also allow use of the sensor in high-speed applications. In switching outputs, too, the KT3M offers more options, as the sensor has both NPN- and PNP-switching.
Rapidly ready for operation and constant reliable detection
The KT3M is rapidly ready for use thanks to the possibility of simple and speedy teach-in, during which the correct setting is reported back to the operator. Contrast marks on highly reflective packaging are reliably detected with the automatic dazzle adaptation. Even fluttering object surfaces are no problem for the KT3M.
