The S300 Mini series offers machine constructors and plant operators certified safety: it meets the safety-oriented requirements of Performance Level d according to EN ISO 13849, SIL2 in line with IEC 61508, as well as Type 3 demands for optoelectronic protective equipment as defined in IEC 61496.
The S300 Mini: Blackberry-sized
The housings of the S300 Mini devices have a height of just 116 mm – about the same as a Blackberry. They are thus the world’s most compact safety laser scanner of their type. No other device allows such space-saving installation. As a result, the series offers such flexible installation that it meets the demands of the most varied of operating conditions and user requirements in intralogistics.
Safety-oriented monitoring for stationary and mobile handling equipment
The S300 Mini series currently consists of two safety laser scanners with differing features. Applications in which the only task is to achieve reliable protection of persons or collision prevention with the help of a safety-certified sensor are solved with the Standard version as the safety-oriented basis solution. These tasks include, above all, stationary applications, e.g. the protection of stationary handling modules such as transfer units and hoisting equipment. The S300 Mini Standard is, however, also suitable for mobile use on lateral distributors in the pre-zone of a high-bay warehouse, on rail-borne transfer platforms for pallets or lattice boxes, or for protecting the rear or sides of automated guided vehicles. The 270° protective field has a range of 2 m, within which a triple field set can be programmed with one protection and two warning fields. The device has one OSSD pair (Output Signal Switch Device) as a direct switching output for plant or vehicle control.
The Remote variant of the S300 Mini has been developed to meet more complex safety requirements. Up to 16 triple field sets and up to 32 monitored cases can be implemented with the device – ideal, therefore, for AGV applications and unmanned fork lift trucks, for example, as well as for stationary hazardous areas with changing protective field dimensions. Plant owners are offered maximum safety combined with the best possible machine or vehicle efficiency thanks to field sets that change dynamically, depending on the drive path or process. In addition, up to four units of electro-sensitive protective equipment, e.g. two S3000 Expert and two S300 Mini Remote, can now be combined in a network via the latest generation of the Enhanced Function Interface, EFI Extended, with the help of the FlexiSoft safety controller from SICK, so that complex protection tasks can also be implemented. During operation, the safe network allows intelligent switching of the field sets of the individual scanners – depending on the particular operating states, speeds and conditions. Moreover, expansion modules permit integration of the most varied of tactile, electromechanical and non-contact safety sensors from the extensive SICK portfolio – or from other producers.
Whether for area protection on stationary material flow modules or for personal protection on autonomous mobile vehicles – in both cases the S300 Mini series impresses with its great flexibility, ease-of-integration and reliability.
