CLV620 bar code laser scanner: new platform with Ethernet on board 

SICK presents a new generation of bar code readers – the CLV620. The compact laser scanner offers even greater reading performance, and an improved operating and diagnostic concept, as a result of its more refined decoding algorithms. Thus the CLV620 offers greater efficiency in its usual applications in handling and warehousing systems, and opens up interesting areas of use in clinical analysis, the electronics industry or document management.

The success story of the bar code laser scanner continues with the CLV6xx family. This series, however, is not merely a facelift of the well-known and proven CLV4xx series, but a new independent scanner platform. The latest technologies and solutions are exploited: from the evaluation, through operation, and up to the communication possibilities.

Improved decoding, simplified operation

The reading algorithms of the SMART decoding system have been further refined so that codes can be even “worse” and still be read. An operating concept of unparalleled simplicity – SOPAS-ET (SICK Open Portal for Application and Systems Engineering Tool) – is available for the simplest possible commissioning and offers, for example, a Connection Assistant, Quick Start, a diagnostic window that can be activated throughout the parameterisation process, an Event Monitor for inputs and outputs, and simple simulation when adjustment parameters require alteration. Auto-setup has been further adapted to the needs of users.

Ethernet on board as an option

On the communication side, the CLV620 – like all later devices – is available as a variant with an Ethernet interface. Cutting costs and saving the space required for a separate Ethernet fieldbus gateway. Filter and sorting functions permit the format of data output to be adapted as required, doing away with the programming effort otherwise necessary in the controller.

Compatible connection technology, new features in preparation

The CLV620 has been mechanically improved and is compatible with the CLV4xx series regarding important parameterisation commands, allowing an upgrade to the new scanner generation. This applies for each new CLV6xx platform that will be presented in the coming months. Then there will be a range of new system features involving fieldbus integration and diagnostic functions, among others.
